Sand-tastic Times Await at the Great New York State Fair!
Every year, more than a million people from across New York come together to enjoy the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse. One of the oldest and largest state fairs in the United States, the attraction has run every year since 1841, offering a wide variety of activities.
There’s much to see and do, from butter and sand sculptures to games and livestock--this Fair has it all. The best of New York's agriculture, food, entertainment and technology, are showcased, providing a fun and educational experience for people of all ages. This year, the Fair’s 13-day run stretches from August 20 through September 1.
The New York Power Authority (NYPA) and New York State Canal Corporation (NYSCC) have a long history at the Fair. NYPA began hosting exhibits starting back in 1949, while the Canal Corporation started in 2017.
As part of our mission to foster a thriving New York State, NYPA and Canals proudly exhibit each year to educate and engage the communities we serve. Visit our booths in the Center of Progress building and learn how NYPA and Canals support clean energy, economic growth and environmental preservation.
While there, you’ll also find the fantastic sand sculpture designed by Sandman Matt Long, honoring the Erie Canal bicentennial. The Canal, which opened in 1825 and spans 363 miles from Buffalo to Albany, transformed New York (and the U.S.), by opening the door to numerous commercial and recreational possibilities and becoming one of the greatest engineering achievements of its time.
The sand sculptors will be working until Monday, August 25. Make sure to pack in some time to get sandy!
Keep an eye on NYPA and Canals social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn) throughout the Fair as we bring all the fun right to you! You can also learn more about the Fair and find visitor information on their website.
